New Music Of The Day: Spring King – Who Are You?

Man, Tarek Musa’s got it going on right now. His band Spring King have been ones-to-watch for what seems like an eternity – no bad thing! – and last night they returned with their second stormer of a single in under six months. After months playing the underdog, they now begin to find themselves in pole position to ace it in 2016…

‘Who Are You?’ follows on from ‘City’, which Zane Lowe launched Beats 1 radio with over the summer. Like that track, you can hear within about 20 seconds of it starting why so many people are gushing about the band: rockabilly riffs which have been pulverised and pushed to breaking point, vocals faintly recalling Arcade Fire’s Win Butler back when he was more lethal than lethargic, and ballbreaking, thrilling production which harks back to the bold structures of At The Drive-In and Rocket From The Crypt (that’ll be Tarek’s doing – he’s also produced singles by The Big Moon, Trudy and St Tropez in his spare time recently).

Not a band track to come back with, in other words.
