Premiere – Irish Trio Cloud Castle Lake’s Dark, Elegant ‘A Wolf Howling’

It takes most bands three or four albums to pluck up the sort of courage and experimentalism Cloud Castle Lake’s debut EP ‘Dandelion’ seeps from every pore. One for fans of Atoms For Peace, Max Richter and Wild Beasts, the Dublin trio’s first release is a heart-bruising ballet of monochrome guitars and sophisticated electronic fizz that marks Daniel McAuley, Brendan Jenkinson and Rory O’Connor as future trail-blazers. Don’t believe us? Try the brilliant ‘A Wolf Howling’ on for size. Full of gloomy doomsday electronics, anguished falsetto vocals and other latter-day Radioheadisms, it doesn’t just grab your attention – it violently kidnaps it, keeping your emotions under lock and key till its wandering seven-minute run-time is out. Ones to watch? You can say that again.

‘Dandelion’ is released on September 22 via Happy Valley Records, with release shows plotted for Dublin (Whelan’s, September 20) and London (Sebright Arms, September 25).
