Ruban Nielson from Unknown Mortal Orchestra was in last week’s NME, talking about how happy he was he survived the band’s recent tour with Girls. But he never mentioned that his brother Kody was bringing his band to London…
Kody heads up Opossom, who’s ‘Blue Meanies’ video is above. They played a handful of sparsely attended but well-received gigs in the capital last week, and the one Radar saw was, for us at least, hugely enjoyable.
They’re a trio comprising Kody (who splits his time between drumming & singing, and synthing & singing), the fantastically-named Bic Runga (bit of drums, guitar, synth, and co-vox with Kody), and a frankly brilliant bassist we didn’t catch the name of. He’s clearly obsessed with Paul McCartney (circa 63) though – playing a Hohner…left-handed…through a distortion pedal…while wearing a sharp black suit. Yessss!
‘Blue Meanies’ is taken from the band’s debut album, ‘Electric Hawaii’. Play it loud and start thinking of the summer.
