Radar Tip Of The Day 38: Knesset

Phoenix might be known as the Valley Of The Sun, but our favourite new band hailing from the area make music better suited to dark late night drives and old jumpers rolled down low over the sleeves.

Knesset

Knesset‘s debut album, ‘Coming Of Age’, was released by Japanese label & Records back in February, and produced by John Congleton, who’s worked with St Vincent, Bill Callahan and The Walkmen in the past (which might give you an idea as to the literary strains of Knesset’s sound). The term “shoegaze” has trailed the album like a mangy cat trying to follow you home, but in fact, ‘Coming Of Age’ sounds more like early Death Cab For Cutie or The American Analog Set – all warm Rhodes piano, propulsive drumming that wouldn’t sound out of place on a National album, and Americana tropes seen through plaintive, jaded young eyes.

The band have given us the exclusive on their new video, for album opener ‘Steady Hands’, a tale of the sights that litter long drives away from someone. Watch it below, and then head to their Bandcamp page to download the album for a measly $5.
