Buzzsaw guitars! Handclaps!!
Nope, I'm not about to go into some lamo rant about how Wire's 'I Am The Fly' is the greatest song ever written (fair shout though, right?). Instead I'll draw your attention to Guildford girl-guy two-piece Carousels and their, uh, buzzin'/clappin' moment of clarity 'Here To Me', which you can listen to right about …now:
As stated in the Buzz section of Radar in this week's mag, My Bloody Valentine's 'Loveless' probably gets played a lot round their houses (along with this, I'd wager). But don't get them too bogged down with all that retro bullshit, because - get this - "reverb is shit" according to the band. And besides, that bassline is way too effervescent to come from jacking off to Shields and co on a rainy Friday night, sounding as it does like it's been airlifted in from some secret section of Primal Scream's 'XTRMNTR' (the more manic bits).
The band are still very much in their infancy, but they'll make their debut at London's Old Blue Last this October. Until then, check this other gem, the punchy, organ-blessed 'Sleep'. I particularly like the computer game-style whip sound that they loop the whole way through it, mainly because it reminds me of playing Metal Gear Solid as a young, dumb 14-year-old twerp:
