The Buzz – This Week’s Hottest New Bands (January 31, 2015)

Pick up this week’s issue of NME and you’ll read Rhian Daly in Radar shooting the breeze with South London garage-pop trio Crushed Beaks – a band whose debut album we’ve been eagerly awaiting for almost three years now, ever since scintillating early single ‘Grim’. Now it’s finally here, titled ‘Scatter’ and due for release on February 9, we hear from the band about how they decamped to Rome to record in horror film soundtrack maestro Fabio Frizzi’s studio, and why they opted to take their time with the record.

Elsewhere in the Radar section, we’ve sunny Californian post-punk courtesy of Hunny, lo-fi alt-pop courtesy of Colleen Green and a band resembling “Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster and Fat White Family in Simon Cowell’s nightmare vision of hell,” scuzzy rockers Hideous Sun Demon. There’s also words from Harmony Tividad, one half of Radar favourites Girlpool, on why the world needs to get acquainted with Pennsylvania bedroom artist Alex G ASAP. Below’s a playlist of the brand new bands bands featured, or at least the ones we were able to track down on Soundcloud. Get stuck in.
