Tokio Myers shares beautiful session versions of ‘Lotus Flower’ and ‘Baltimore’

Tokio Myers had quite the 2017, to be honest. Firstly he won Britain’s Got Talent 2017 – performing a version of Debussy’s ‘Clair de lune’, as well as Ed Sheeran’s ‘Bloodstream’, Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar theme on the way. An album followed, went to number 4 in the charts and now Tokio’s hitting the road to tour the record. Not bad, tbh.

Now, Myers has recorded two very special versions of a couple of the songs from the album, in the shape of ‘Baltimore’ and ‘Lotus Flower’ and given us the story behind each.

Lotus Flower

“Experiencing London city through my eyes, growing up as a young kid to the present day. This track represents the grit and the grind that the streets embodies and feeds itself on. I can feel the anger and frustration from people, I can see all the dreams that never came true. This track is an anthem telling us to rise up and regain our powers, the power within to keep on pushing, and to never give in to the system/the matrix. True freedom is what we are all searching for.”

Baltimore

“The streets make us famous for the times that we fall/who told you brother that love has two sides” – So many people, around the world, going through similar situations, fighting for change, protesting to be counted as equals – This track gives you a perspective from the people who live in Baltimore who have to constantly be fighting for justice, praying that one day they can live in peace.”
