The Reading quartet serve up arena-sized riffs alongside a typically soaring chorus on 'Olympia'

Back in September, Sundara Karma played one of their biggest headline sets to date at London’s Heaven. The gig arrived nearly four months before the release of their forthcoming debut album, but there was already a huge sense of triumph for both the band and the adoring crowd as they took to the stage for the headline show.

The Reading hopefuls packed in both familiar hits, like fan favourites ‘She Said’, ‘Flame’ and ‘Loveblood’, as well as airing unheard songs that’ll feature on their debut album ‘Youth Is Only Ever Fun In Retrospect’ come 2017. It made little difference in the reaction from the crowd whether they knew them or not, as mosh pits full of sweaty teenagers opened up across the floor throughout the 12-song set. One such song was ‘Olympia’, which featured a noodling guitar riff in the vein of The War On Drugs, and frontman Oscar’s soaring vocals. Now, they’ve shared a chaotic live video from the Heaven gig of this song, which you can watch below.

It’s a relative slow-burner compared to some of their previous singles. That doesn’t make it any less enthralling, as they combine both the heartfelt intimacy of The Maccabees and Blossoms‘ psychedelic pop credentials with euphoric results. ‘Olympia’ sees them aim for the summit, and on this occasion – they’ve made it with ease.

Debut album ‘Youth Is Only Ever Fun In Retrospect’ is released on January 6th via Sony Music
