Designing iconic posters is a fine art - and getting the graphics right for the mighty line-ups at festivals is even harder. The UK Festival Awards takes place tonight and artist Pete Fowler has curated an exhibition of posters over the last 10 years to run alongside it. Here, he picks five of his favourites and explains why. Leave your suggestions for great festival poster art in the comments below.

NME
"A sucker for most things nautical, I like the touch of the ‘golden age of travel’ aesthetic that this poster draws from while updating it into something more contemporary."

NME
"I like the use of a stag on this poster with many festivals now taking place in deer parks and a nice way of working the line up within the illustration."

NME
"I love the mix of exotica and art nouveau used on this poster, which is reminiscent of the cream of the late 1960’s psychedelic posters from the US West coast."

NME
"OK, I designed this. Is that allowed? Perhaps I’m a bit biased but this has a fond place in my heart for a festival I love in my beloved Wales"

NME
"Great to see a jazz animal on a poster, and featuring an illustration as the main image. The hand drawn image is a big plus for me, so props to the organisers for commissioning an illustrator for this."
