Rock biopics are tricky to get right - they can either be a pile of utter wank and an embarrassment to all involved (The Doors), or a brilliant, on-the-nose account of a musician's life and career (Walk The Line).

There's been a lot of online chatter about rock movies lately, the most recent addition being an upcoming film based on the life of Jeff Buckley (one of two in development), as portrayed by Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley.

There's also a biopic of Beach Boys' Brian Wilson in the works, now that River Road Entertainment has acquired the life rights to the Beach Boys founder and those of his wife, Melinda Wilson.

No director or actor has been signed on to the project yet, and we're curious who will be selected to take on the role of the musician.

Who do you think would be best suited to portray Wilson's turbulent life experiences (drug use, mental illness, growing up with an abusive, alcoholic father)?

Obviously it depends which period of Wilson's life the film will focus on. Assuming it's the early days of the Beach Boys, when Wilson was slightly tubby and gawky-looking, the producers will want someone who gives good geek - Tobey Maguire? Clark Duke? Rainn Wilson?

But then if the film traces the great man's later evolution into a slightly shambling, poignant figure, they'll want someone with a bit more class, who can pull off a sense of battered dignity - Paul Giamatti? William H Macy?

Who do you think would fit the bill?
