Hove Festival

Hove Festival Festival

When: June 23-27

Where: Tromøya, Arendal

What: Another festival, another Jay-Z headline but this one offers the pull of being on a stunning Norwegian island. With enough stages to rival some of its major UK cousins and with attractions like the Hove Film Festival, visual arts display and literature arena there's a lot about this festival that could pit it above the likes of Glasto and Latitude on your festival wish-list. Okay it hasn't got the sunshine of Benicassim (in fact the weather's a bit like British spring time - pre-global warming) but with four different campsites to choose from, including one for your boat (if you happen to have one lying around) and a zero footprint one, five days of music and entertainment plus flights all starting from about £300 total - it's a music holiday.

Tickets: 1890 NOK (£183) for five-day passes to the festival. 500 NOK (£47) for Festival camping. 350 NOK (£35) for Zero Footprint camping. 250 NOK (£25) per person for the Boat camp and 150 NOK (£15) per boat. 150 NOK (£15) per night for Hove Offsite camping per tent. 180 NOK (£18) for housewagons. 400-600 NOK (£40 - £60) per night for offsite Cabins.

Big Big Love for Foals

So today so far has been pretty pleasant. The festival site seems to have emptied somewhat - that or everyone might be in a tent watching Flogging Molly or disappeared down the hole The Wombats drilled last night - but the crowds for the bands so...

Vampin' It Up

Time for some Pirate Blogging as Mr.Cochrane has run into the woods again, this time to put Thor’s hammer back in exchange for a smaller one (it was killing his back). [...] Read more!

The Wombats: Breaking new ground?

Yesterday we spent the day catching up with a few bands. First, The Wombats – minus bassist Tord who was whacked out on the bus – we caught a few words with Murph and Dan as threw their vortex rocket about backstage. Murph confirmed that...

MGMT – “We’re going in a helicopter?!”

The kind folks of Hove have just taken us on a boat trip around the outskirts of the island – spectacular alpine scenery and a great way to shake the hangover. As we stumbled off the yacht we briefly caught up with MGMT before their mainstage...

Black Kids steal Norwegian hearts

Oya from Hove Festival in Norway – this is Lee Laborde (Club NME meistro) hijacking Greg Cochrane’s blog (he’s off still off looking for Thor’s hammer apparently – the £5 bourbon we picked up at duty free has done some weird things to...

Jay-Z and a children's BMX

Of course the first thing you expect to see when you arrive in Norway – apart from a family of trolls and fleet of long boats – is a balding man riding a children’s BMX. Not that weird you might think. But considering this man is Tim...
