Lovebox festival took place over the weekend (18/19/20 July) at east London’s Victoria Park. Saturday featured a main stage headline performance from MIA.
Throughout the performance, the singer complained that should couldn’t hear her own beats, and repeatedly gestured to and approached the side of stage asking for the technical problems to be rectified.
Prior to ‘Double Bubble Trouble’, the Sri Lankan singer invited the front rows of the crowd to join her on the stage. Moments after the sound across the field cut out, and the video screens went black. After a brief interlude MIA returned for a rapturously received encore of ‘Paper Planes’ and ‘Bad Girls.’
Also during the weekend, Crystal Fighters – looking a bit like Empire of the Sun – brought their unique brand of disco pop.
A$AP Rocky was also one of the big names to appear on the bill in east London.
Kiesza brought her incredible dance moves (and trousers) to an afternoon set.
Katy B also played a hit-packed set in the sunshine.
For those who weren’t watching Crystal Fighters.
Joey Badass played on the Friday of the festival.
On the Noisey stage The Horrors played a spectacular set. Faris and co will play Reading and Leeds festivals next month.
One of the world’s greatest rappers, Nas.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary Nas played his iconic album ‘Illmatic’ in full.
