Drake battles illness to headline first day of Poland’s Open’er Festival

A$AP Rocky, Alt-J and Father John Misty also performed at first day of festival

Drake headlined the first night of the 2015 Open’er Festival in Gdynia, Poland, with a storming solo set, which he claimed he’d battled illness to perform.

“I went to my doctor and I said ‘you gotta get me well because I gotta go see my people in Poland,” Drake said, also complimenting the crowd on their enthusiasm for his hit-rammed set. “Can I be honest with you?” he told them, “I done a lot of shows recently but this is the craziest shit I’ve ever seen right here.”

The rap charmer even considered changing his tour plans because “now I’ve seen all the females I might stay on a night in Poland so I can experience…”

A$AP Rocky performing live

Earlier in the day A$AP Rocky played an energised show accompanied by his new acoustic sidekick Joe Fox on tracks such as ‘Holy Ghost’. A$AP masterfully worked the crowd, getting them to choose whether he played ‘Fine Wine’ or ‘Electric Body’ and closing a set packed with inventive hip-hop such as ‘L$D’ and ‘Excuse Me’ with a cover of House Of Pain’s ‘Jump Around’.

Following his set, Modest Mouse took the stage for a fiery gig pitched partway between The Rapture’s funk punk, Balkan brass and Afghan Whigs alt-rock. Highlights included their classic single ‘Float On’ and an expansive ‘The World At Large’.
