  • Ian Curtis, Joy Division. The tragic vocalist's influence can be gauged on a shallow level by the prevalence of stylistic copyists (Editors' Tom Smith, Interpol's Paul Banks). On a deeper level, the authentic agony he summoned in his lyrics prefigured the likes of Kurt Cobain and Richey Edwards.
