  • Liam and Noel Gallagher are known for their spats - which trace back to the very start of their band's career. We're taking a look at some of the biggest fights they've faced over the years, beginning in 1994. While playing a show in LA Liam hit Noel over the head with a tambourine and threatened to quit the band, starting the many more infamous ‘Noel who cried quit’s to come.

  • 1994: During the band's first American tour in 1994 Liam changed the words to some of the songs so that they offensive to Americans and Noel. After the show Noel confronted his brother which led to them fighting, a chair being thrown and Noel leaving the tour.

  • 1994: In another interview by NME’s John Harris in 1995 the boys spent the majority of the interview telling each other to shut up and ‘eff off.’

  • 1994: No strangers to brawls and cancelled gigs, the band were meant to play a showcase in Amsterdam, but Liam and Guigsy kicked up a stir in a bar on the way, and they got deported immediately.

  • 1995: The audio was released as a bootleg single, called ‘Wibbling Rivalry’, by Fierce Panda, under the name “Oas*s”. The single contained both a ‘Liam Track’ and a ‘Noel Track’.

  • 1995: Whilst recording their second album ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ Liam invited all of those at the pub back to the studio while Noel was trying to work. This resulted in Noel hitting Liam over the head with a cricket bat.

  • 1996: Liam backed out of an MTV Unplugged session minutes before he was due to go on, leaving Noel to fill in. Liam then sat in the balcony with a beer and critiqued Noel's singing between songs.

  • 2000: The band pulled out of a gig in Barcelona in 2000 because drummer Alan White had hurt his arm. That evening's drinking ended with Liam questioning the legitimacy of Noel’s fatherhood to his daughter Anais, to which Noel leaped onto his brother and punched him in the face splitting his lip.

  • 2000: A statement was issued soon after, stating that Noel had quit overseas touring with Oasis, and the rest of the band (with guitarist Matt Deighton replacing Noel) played for the remaining Oasis dates. Of the incident, Noel said in 2005 “I’ve never forgiven him because he’s never apologised.”

  • 1996: 15 minutes before the band were meant to fly to America for a tour, Liam backed out, claiming he had to buy a house with his wife instead of playing for "silly Yanks". The band began the tour without him - he rejoined them later on, but after two weeks, Noel scrapped the remainder of the dates.

  • 2002: Liam stormed offstage at a gig in Japan (citing vocal problems). "Liam had been whingeing about his monitors all the way through the tour," said Noel. "I said to him 'Are you gonna fucking shut up for the rest of the fucking year, or are you gonna carry on moaning you moaning bastard?'. He looked at me really weirdly and threw his tambourine on the floor like a woman, then walked off."

  • 2002: "If he walks into a room, I'll walk out because I think he fucking let us down,” Noel continued about his brother. “I don't mind if he's got a sore throat, but not if he just wantonly has a diva fit on stage because his elder brother tells him to stop moaning. Because if everyone at the gig sees the singer having a bad time, they think: should I be having a good time or a bad time?"

  • 2002: “Why should we talk after what's gone on,” he continued. “I really don't know what we're going to do about his drinking and behaviour - we've been here before but I really don't want to be here again, if you take my meaning. At least the tour is back on and I'm glad because I don't want to let down any of our supporters."

  • 2005: Noel said that he can easily manipulate his brother. “I’ve kind of learnt that instead of arguing stuff out with him and ending up in a fight, I work on his psychology and he’s completely freaked out by me now," he told SPIN. "He’s actually frightened to death of me."

  • 2007: Noel told Mojo that Liam hated ‘Wonderwall’ the first time he heard it. “At the time, in the press, the new musical phenomenon was trip-hop. Because ‘Wonderwall’ didn’t have a 4/4 beat, he was like, ‘it’s trip-hop!’ I said, well, why don’t you go away and listen to some for a start and then come back and tell me it’s trip-hop. He was having none of it."

  • 2008: When the band were recording ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ in LA in 2008 Liam left for the weekend without warning to marry Nicole Appleton. His absence and Noel’s reaction to his disappearance resulted in the loss of some tracks from the album as Liam hadn’t recorded vocals for them.

  • 2009: There were claims that Liam cancelled their V Festival appearance in 2009 because Liam was hungover. Noel recently said of the incident: “He claimed he had laryngitis, but whatever. There was a lot of bad press around that, and in his head, he thinks I'm some sort of fucking puppet master who controls the media in England.”

  • 2009: But Liam replied: "I got diagnosed with laryngitis for the V festival - I wasn't hungover. I do gigs when I've been hungover. I'm a big boy. I'm not going to cancel a gig because I've got a headache.”

  • 2009: Noel officially quit the band on 28 August, 2009, writing on their website: “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer... Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.”

  • 2009: Noel has spoken out about the night he quit Oasis just before they were due to play at the Rock En Seine festival in Paris. He said Liam went and got a guitar and started "wielding it about like an axe…he nearly took my face off."

  • 2009: Just before the split, the boys rarely spoke to each other and used Twitter to communicate which was usually a ping pong game of insults. They would travel separately on while on tour and would only ever see each other on stage.

  • 2009: Liam took legal action against his brother for comments he made about why they pulled out of their Paris gig. Liam did drop the lawsuit and Noel took to YouTube to apologise but did say he "wouldn’t get in a room with Liam" to sort it out.

  • 2010: In February, Oasis took home the award for Brits Album Of 30 Years for 1995's '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?'. In his acceptance speech, Liam neglected to mention his brother. "Listen kids, I wanna thank Bonehead, Guigs [bassist Paul McGuigan], Alan White and the best fucking fans in the world," he said before throwing his microphone and award into the audience as he walked offstage.

  • 2010: Liam said he was was simply trying to get his former bandmates more recognition by leaving out Noel, who wrote all the songs on the album. "I'm sick of it all being about me and Noel," he said. "The last couple of months has pretty much been all about me and him so I thought it was only right to mention the other lads who played on the album and the best fans in the world."

  • 2010: Liam said that his band’s split-up was "the best thing that’s ever happened, because we're free to do whatever we want." He also revealed that he had not spoken to his brother since their break-up.

  • 2011: Noel blamed the fight on Liam after he demanded a free ad for his clothing line Pretty Green be featured in their tour program. Liam replied: "In my opinion - he's a control freak. He's making up lies to get brownie points…I'm partly to blame but I'm not solely to blame. It's breaking my heart. People need to know that it wasn't just me who split the band up, it was Noel too."

  • 2011: Following the Pretty Green spat, Noel began receiving creepy phone messages from his brother. He told Mojo: “I would be getting up in the morning and our answering machine would have strange messages from him in the middle of the night. It started off as offensive, then weird, and finally creepy.”
