  • Plan B will release his new album himself after his record label rejected his return to hip-hop. After this year's 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks', a concept soul album, it seems the record company were not too keen to see him return to the genre he started out in, suggesting they were "over the moon" when he announced he would release the project without them.

  • Heavy rain has fallen at this weekend's (July 9-11) T In The Park festival site – although there should be some sunny periods. Forecast service BBC Weather predicted heavy rain on Friday and Saturday on the Kinross site in Scotland, while sunny intervals are expected on Sunday, the final day of the event.

  • MIA says she has written the "perfect song" for Jay-Z. The rapper recently remixed the singer's track 'XXXO', appearing on the new version, and now she wants to return the favour. "I really want to produce for him. ... I have got the perfect song for Jay-Z," MIA told MTV News.

  • Justin Bieber may face a tour of North Korea – as the result of an internet vote to choose a country for a gig, determined by online users worldwide. The teenage singer held a poll on his official website, Justinbiebermusic, asking fans where they thought he should perform.

  • Lindsay Lohan has been sentenced to three months in jail for violating probation. The actress, 24, burst into tears after the ruling in Beverly Hills, California yesterday (July 6), reports BBC News. Lohan has also been ordered to undergo a rehabilitation programme after breaking the terms of her probation in a 2007 drugs case.

  • Nick Cave's novel The Death Of Bunny Munro is to be made into a TV mini-series. The musician and screenwriter told Empire about the adaptation at June's Dundee Literature Festival, stating he originally wrote the story as a screenplay, but had it published as a novel after it failed to move forward.

  • Mark Ronson has revealed that he and Amy Winehouse have recorded a cover of Lesley Gore's 1963 song 'It's My Party'. The pair started working on the song in 2008, with the track set to appear on a forthcoming tribute album to legendary producer Quincy Jones. It was Jones' first hit single as a producer, and a version by Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin topped the UK charts in 1981.

  • Cheryl Cole has contracted malaria, her spokesperson has confirmed. The singer is thought to have been bitten by a mosquito while holidaying in Tanzania with dancer Derek Hough. After reports in the tabloids that she collapsed during a photoshoot, Cole's spokesperson said she is now being treated in hospital for the infectious disease.

  • Julian Casablancas has predicted that The Strokes' next album will be released in March 2011. The singer said the album, which his other Strokes bandmates have been recording without him, is "almost halfway done" at present.

  • Local Natives played a short notice 'open air' gig this week (July 5) to a packed audience in London’s Hoxton Square, but came admitted they came prepared for a "crowd of ten". The five-piece from Los Angeles brought acoustic instruments and no amps for their intimate gig in the city’s East End, which they had only announced hours beforehand via Twitter.

  • The BBC Trust has opted to save BBC 6Music from closure, following an initial investigation into the digital future of the corporation. BBC Trust Chairman Sir Michael Lyons set out the first findings of the Trust's Strategy Review this week (July 5), available to view at BBC.co.uk. The report's conclusions at present say that 6Music's future is assured.

  • LCD Soundsystem lashed out at the crowd during their headline set on day two at the Wireless Festival this week (July 3) after fans threw several bottles onstage. The band, who recently released their third album 'This Is Happening', stopped their set midway through to chastise the lively audience members.

  • Eminem is set to play T In The Park this weekend (July 10) - after organisers moved to quash rumours he was on the verge of pulling out. The rapper is also set to make a similar headlining appearance at Ireland's Oxegen festival. According to reports a bogus website was claiming that Eminem was going to drop out of his live commitments.

  • Snoop Dogg is trying to associate himself with two Manchester legends. Rather than Morrissey and Oasis, the rapper has expressed his desire to link up with Manchester United and Coronation Street. Snoop achieved the first part by hanging out with injured defender Rio Ferdinand at Ordsall Youth Centre in the city, and even showed off his football skills.

  • Klaxons' Jamie Reynolds allegedly took a bevy of girls back to his hotel room following the band's set at Poland's Heineken Open'er festival last week (July 2). However, rather than indulge in any rock star fantasies, he proceeded to shock the party by ordering staff to bring up all the cheese and white wine they could manage.

  • George Michael has been arrested after he crashed his Range Rover into a branch of Snappy Snaps in north London. The singer, 47, was arrested by police on Sunday night (July 4) on suspicion of being unfit to drive, reports BBC News. He is said to have crashed his car into a Snappy Snaps on Hampstead High Street, near to where he lives. He has now been bailed by police to return in August.

  • Pete Doherty has reportedly been hospitalised after missing a gig in France. Concertgoers were apparently on their way into Nice's Theatre de Verdure (July 8) for a solo show by the singer when it announced the performance would be rescheduled, reports WENN.COM.

  • Elbow's Guy Garvey has declared that producing I Am Kloot's latest album was more satisfying then his own work. Speaking in this week's NME, which is on UK newsstands now, the singer said that his and bandmate Craig Potter's work with John Bramwell and co on 'Sky At Night' was in many ways more enjoyable than his work with Elbow.
