Terry O’Neill: Screen Sirens & Rock Rebels

  • David Bowie and Elizabeth Taylor, Beverly Hills, 1975. He says: "Liz asked me to bring David to her home in Hollywood to discuss a role in a movie she was planning. Bowie arrived hours late and Taylor was not amused. I couldn't believe that he kept the biggest superstar in the world waiting, but I managed to persuade the two of them to pose together to lighten the mood."

  • Paul McCartney at Ringo Starr's wedding, London, 1981. As a trusted friend, Terry was invited to photograph Ringo’s wedding to the actress and model, Barbara Bach. The reception was an outlandish spectacular – a who’s who of music and show business. Paul found a lone piano and started to play; “before we knew it, everyone was singing along,” he remembers.

Terry says: "At the time, we didn’t think it would last – we’d all joke about what jobs we would have to get when it was all over – Ringo was going to open a hair salon and John and I would end up in a bank."

  • Raquel Welch Los Angeles, 1970. Terry says: “I wanted to symbolize the dilemma facing Welch as the female sex symbol of the decade - ‘crucified’ for her sexuality by the movie industry and the wider public who did not take her seriously as an actress. It was deemed too controversial for use at the time."
