  • Kasabian headlined Spain's Benicassim International Festival at the weekend (July 15), playing a hit-laden set to a 30,000-strong crowd. The band powered through their back catalogue, taking to the Verde stage at 1am (CET) to play songs including 'Shoot The Runner', 'Fire' and 'Club Foot'.

  • Vampire Weekend closed this year's Latitude on Sunday (July 18). The band played the Suffolk event's largest stage, the Obelisk Arena - coming onstage ten minutes late as their equipment was delayed arriving from Portugal, where the group had performed on Saturday (July 17).

  • Grace Jones closed the final night of the Lovebox Festival on Sunday (July 18) with a career-spanning set. The Jamaican-American singer, who was 25 minutes late, pulled in a huge crowd for a spectacular performance on the Main Stage at Victoria Park in east London, which saw her make several costume changes as she reeled off tracks stretching right back to her 1977 debut album 'Portfolio'.

  • The shortlist for the 2010 Barclaycard Mercury Prize was announced on Tuesday (July 20). The names of the 12-strong list were revealed this morning at a press conference at London's Hospital Club. As widely predicted, The XX feature with their self-titled debut, while Wild Beasts, Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling have also been nominated by the prize's jury.

  • Robbie Williams has signed up to star in a karaoke video game featuring 25 tracks from his back catalogue. EMI have teamed up with Nordic Games for 'We Sing Robbie Williams', which will come out on the Nintendo Wii at the same time as his compilation album 'In And Out Of Consciousness: The Greatest Hits 1990-2010' on October 11.

  • Amy Winehouse reportedly broke down in tears when she saw a live stream of Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan being sent to jail for probation violation. The singer is said to have told friends that she could have found herself in the same position (Daily Star).

  • The Libertines are set to warm up for their performances at the Reading And Leeds Festivals next month by playing the HMV Forum in London. Co-frontman Carl Barat told BBC Newsbeat that the reunited band will headline the Kentish Town venue before playing Leeds Festival on August 27 and Reading Festival on August 28.

  • The Beach Boys are set to reform for a 50th anniversary show. As Rolling Stone reports, founding member and guitarist Al Jardine has revealed that the group will reunite to perform and that the gig will "probably be free".

  • A video of Jack White playing The Beatles' 'Mother Nature's Son' has emerged online. The White Stripes man performed the song from the legendary group's 1968 LP 'The Beatles' [known as 'The White Album'], at a special show at the White House last month (June 8), reports Twenty Four Bit.

  • Ice-T was arrested in New York for driving without a seatbelt on. The rapper and his wife Coco Morrow were on a journey through Manhattan on their way to the vets with their bulldog when they were unexpectedly pulled over by the police, reports TMZ.com.

  • Madonna has received an official warning from London council officers after staff at her home in Marylebone upset neighbours by staging a noisy party. The singer, who has been issued with a noise abatement order, was out the country when the incident took place on the afternoon of June 27.

  • The new biopic on the life of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain will be "raw and chaotic", says the film's new director Oren Moverman. Speaking to The Guardian, New York-based Moverman revealed more details of what he has planned. He declared: "It’ll be raw and chaotic, which is what Cobain’s life was like."

  • Lil Wayne is set to face a $1.13 million (£742,411) tax bill when he leaves prison. The rapper has been officially ordered to pay the US Internal Revenue Service, according to Florida court documents. He apparently owes tax from 2004, 2005 and 2007, reports the Detroit Free Press.

  • Metallica's Lars Ulrich has said that in retrospect he thinks it was "stupid" of the band to allow themselves to be filmed for 2004 documentary Some Kind Of Monster. The drummer told the Sydney Herald Sun that the film, which followed the band during the making of their 2003 album 'St. Anger', was a "mindfuck". They were receiving group therapy at the time.

  • Joss Stone is to play a Bond Girl in a new computer game based on the James Bond film series. The singer provides the voice and look for a character in James Bond 007: Blood Stone, which comes out later this summer. "She's like this 'it girl', socialite kind of chick - a jewellery designer who flits around the world meeting people in high places," Stone told BBC Newsbeat of her character.

  • Paramore's Hayley Williams scored her first ever UK Number One single on Sunday (July 18) when her collaboration with B.o.B climbed from Number Three to claim the top spot. 'Airplanes' has been steadily rising up the chart since entering at Number 23 seven weeks ago, according to the Official Charts Company.
