This week's news in pictures (4 July 2009)

The Strokes' Albert Hammond, Jr. has seemingly taken inspiration from Blur's 1995 single 'Country House' and has bought a very big house in the country. The guitarist recently showed the New York Post around his new 10-acre 19th Century-style farmhouse in the Catskills, 90 miles north west of his native Manhattan. Hammond Jr said that a recent car purchase had inspired his new acquisition. Photo: Pieter M Van Hattem
