‘101 Dalmatians’ baddie Cruella de Vil is getting her own movie

Glenn Close, who played De Vil in two popular Disney films, will serve as an executive producer

Disney is planning a new live-action movie centred on classic 101 Dalmatians baddie Cruella De Vil.

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) has been hired to write the script, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed, and Glenn Close will serve as an executive producer. Close played De Vil in Disney’s 1996 live-action 101 Dalmatians movie and its 2000 sequel 102 Dalmatians.

De Vil, a glamorous London-based heiress who kidnaps dalmatian puppies for their polka dot fur, first appeared in Dodie Smith’s classic 1956 children’s novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians before Disney brought her to the big screen in its 1961 animated film of the same name and the two live-action movies starring Close.
