American film-maker passes away due to complications from pneumonia

American film-maker Blake Edwards has died at the age of 88 due to complications from pneumonia.

Edwards‘ publicist Gene Schwam said the veteran director died on Wednesday (December 15) at St John’s Health Centre in Santa Monica. His wife, the actress Julie Andrews, was at his side.

Films Edwards directed include The Pink Panther, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and 10. Although he was never rewarded with an Oscar, he was given an honorary Academy Award in 2004 for his “extraordinary body of work”.

Edwards married Julie Andrews in 1969, and directed her in a string of films.
