‘Sin City 2’ release date pushed back to August 2014

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's sequel was originally scheduled to open this October (2013)

The release date of Sin City 2 has been pushed back nearly a year.

The sequel was originally scheduled for release on October 4 this year (2013), but will now open in cinemas on August 22, 2014. Distributors Dimension Films and The Weinstein Company have yet to give an official reason for the delay.

Co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller based on Miller’s series of graphic novels, the original Sin City was a hit with critics and film fans back in 2005. The film’s stellar ensemble cast included Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba.

Sequel rumours circulated for several years, before a follow-up movie finally went into pre-production last April (2012). Rodriguez and Miller, returning as co-directors, gave the sequel an official title: Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

Shooting then started in October with Willis, Dawson, Rourke and Alba all reprising their roles. Meanwhile, Joseph Gordon-Levitt signed up to play a new character Rodriguez described as “a very cocky gambler”.

Other new additions to the cast include Josh Brolin, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven and Juno Temple. Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is being shot in 3D.
