'12 Years A Slave', 'American Hustle' nominated for 86th Academy Awards

12 Years A Slave and American Hustle have been nominated for the 86th annual Academy Awards.

The nominations for the ceremony - which takes place at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre on March 2, hosted by Ellen Degeneres - were announced earlier today. Steve McQueen has been nominated for Directing for 12 Years A Slave, which is also up for Best Picture, alongside American Hustle, Her, Dallas Buyers Club, Gravity, The Wolf of Wall Street, Nebraska, Philomena and Captain Phillips. The other nominations for Directing are David O. Russell for American Hustle, Alfonso Cuarón for Gravity, Alexander Payne for Nebraska and Martin Scorsese for The Wolf of Wall Street.

Other nominees of interest include Alan Partridge creator Steve Coogan, who has been nominated in the Adapted Screenplay category alongside Jeff Pope for Philomena. Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street is up against Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave for Performance by an actor in a leading role, whilst Amy Adams in American Hustle is up against Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine and Judi Dench in Philomena for Performance by an actress in a leading role. Michael Fassbender has been nominated for Best performance by an actor in a supporting role for his part in 12 Years a Slave whilst newcomer Lupita Nyong'o has been nominated for Best performance by an actress in a supporting role for her role in the same film.
