Aaron Sorkin to write Steve Jobs biopic

Aaron Sorkin has been confirmed to write the script for the Steve Jobs biopic.

The Social Network screenwriter has been courted for the project since November, but has been deliberating while he develops his new HBO drama The Newsroom. But now he has officially signed on, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Scott Rudin is already on board to produce the movie, which will be adapted from Walter Isaacson's official biography of the late Apple co-founder. Sony apparently paid $1 million for the rights to the book, which was based on interviews with Jobs and others close to him.

Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal said in a statement: "There is no writer working in Hollywood today who is more capable of capturing such an extraordinary life for the screen than Aaron Sorkin; in his hands, we're confident that the film will be everything that Jobs himself was: captivating, entertaining and polarizing."

There is already another Steve Jobs biopic underway, Joshua Michael Stern's Jobs, which has cast Ashton Kutcher in the lead role and will reach cinemas first.
