Al Pacino stars in first trailer for 'Phil Spector' biopic - watch
Written and directed by David Mamet, the HBO film also stars Helen Mirren
The trailer shows Al Pacino as Phil Spector preparing to go to trial for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson in 2003, and includes some impressive emotional outbursts and even more impressive wigs.
Written and directed by David Mamet the film explores the relationship that develops between Spector and his lawyer Linda Kenney Baden, played by Helen Mirren, before and during his trial. Baden must defend the music producer while searching for the truth.
Spector worked with artists such as John Lennon and The Ronettes and is credited with having a huge impact on the course of rock 'n' roll. In 2009 he was found guilty of the murder of actress Lana Clarkson and sentenced to 19 years to life in prison. He is currently serving his sentence in California and won't be eligible for parole until the age of 88.
Also starring Jeffrey Tambor and Martin Jarvis, the film has recently come under fire from pressure group Friends Of Lana Clarkson, led by Hollywood agent Edward Lozzi, who says the film is "an insensitive attempt to portray the loathsome, lying, gun-abusing convicted murderer Spector with some kind of sympathy".
Phil Spector will air in the US on March 24, 2013, with a UK release yet to be confirmed.
