Alan Cumming wants to return as Nightcrawler in new 'X-Men' movie

Alan Cumming has admitted that he is keen to feature in the next X-Men movie.

Cumming appeared in 2003's X2 as Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler, a good-natured mutant known for his distinctive blue skin. To date, it is the actor's sole appearance in the X-Men franchise.

Discussing the popularity of his character with ComingSoon.net, Cumming said: "It was funny that film because I really like it and everyone really responded to Nightcrawler. Enough time has elapsed that I would like to go back to it."

However, Cumming admitted that he is not feeling optimistic about being asked to return. He added: "I haven't gotten the call. Someone told me that Nightcrawler doesn't appear in the story but I don't know, I think they would have called by now."

The new X-Men movie, subtitled Days Of Future Past, is due to begin shooting early next year (2013). Last month (November 2012), director Bryan Singer surprised fans by announcing that the film has roles for X-Men veterans Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen - as well as the franchise's current stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman is in negotiations to make an appearance as Wolverine.
