Alfonso Cuarón's 'Gravity' gets a new release date

Sci-fi drama Gravity starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock will now be released on October 4, 2013.

Warner Bros pushed back the film's original November 2012 release date so it wouldn't have to compete with other blockbusters Argo, Gangster Squad, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Great Gatsby, which at the time were all set for release on Christmas Day 2012. The Great Gatsby has now also been pushed back to May 10, 2013.

Directed by Children Of Men's Alfonso Cuarón, the film sees Clooney and Bullock take on the role of two astronauts who become stranded in space on a damaged vessel after their space station is destroyed. The film details their attempts to get back to Earth and it's been said that the majority of the story will focus on Bullock's medical engineer character.

Both Clooney and Bullock signed on after a number of high-profile names, including Angelina Jolie, dropped out in 2010.

The new release date means Gravity will be released on the same day as Weinstein/Dimension's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, Relativity's Paranoia and Disney's The Delivery Man.

George Clooney's other 2013 film is The Monuments Men, which he directs as well as stars in and Sandra Bullock will next be seen in comedy The Heat, out on 5 April 2013. Watch the trailer below.
