Rising Swedish actress Alicia Vikander is reportedly near finalising a deal to star alongside Tom Cruise and Arnie Hammer in Guy Richie's new movie version of The Man From UNCLE.

Vikander, who recently finished shooting DreamWorks' WikiLeaks movie The Fifth Estate and appeared in Anna Karenina, is in the final stages of negotiations to play the female lead – a British agent with a thing for cars – in the upcoming film adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original The Man From UNCLE TV series starred Robert Vaughn and David McCallum as a pair of secret agents working for a fictitious international espionage agency called the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (UNCLE). It ran for 105 episodes between 1964 and 1968.

The new movie version was originally conceived as a vehicle for George Clooney directed by Steven Soderbergh, but the actor dropped out in August 2011 because he was suffering from a recurring back injury and deemed the role too physical. Soderbergh later exited the project too and his seat in the director's chair was taken by Ritchie.
