'Anchorman 2' to be part musical?
Screenwriter Adam McKay reveals squeal will include big musical numbers
Anchorman 2 could be part musical, according to the film's writer and director Adam McKay.
The script for the sequel is currently still being written by Judd Apatow and Adam Mackay, the director of the original film, with shooting expected to begin next year.
McKay is currently promoting his new film Fully Loaded, which heavily features big music scenes, and was asked by The Playlist if the upcoming Anchorman 2 would also include musical numbers.
He responded: "There will be some music in Anchorman 2 though for sure, we have some songs already written. We were going to do Anchorman 2 as a Broadway musical first, for like six months and then go shoot the movie. That was our initial idea."
When asked if the performances in the film would be similar to that of a Broadway musical, he added: "Whole song sequences, absolutely. The music sequences we have done - we did 'Afternoon Delight', Adam Scott and his family singing 'Sweet Child O' Mine' in Step Brothers, we did a whole song for Talladega Nights that got cut out, a big, big musical number - we always do it live on the set."
Earlier this year, an Anchorman 2 teaser trailer was released in which Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner revived their roles from the original film.
