'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' given official release date
The comedy sequel will arrive in cinemas 12 months from now in December 2013
Anchorman: The Legend Continues now has an official release date.
Paramount Pictures has announced that the comedy sequel will arrive in US cinemas on December 20, 2013 – exactly one year from today. However, the film's UK opening has yet to be confirmed.
Will Ferrell will be back as Ron Burgundy, alongside original castmates Steve Carell, David Koechner and Paul Rudd. A teaser trailer reuniting the foursome was released back in May (2012) – scroll down and click 'play' to watch it.
Christina Applegate will also reprise her role from the first Anchorman film, while Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig is rumoured to be joining the cast as a love interest for Carell's character, Brick Tamland.
Released in 2004, Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy was a parody of a 1970s TV newsroom written by Ferrell and the film's director Adam McKay. The pair are also scripting the follow-up, with McKay once again at the helm. The sequel is scheduled to begin filming next February (2013).
Speaking back in April (2012), McKay revealed a few teasers about the sequel's plot, saying: "I don't want to give away too much, but I'll just give a couple of ideas that we've kicked around. Keep in mind we're still writing the story, but I'll say one phrase for you: custody battle. I'll give you that. I'll give you another one: bowling for dollars."
