'Lord Of The Rings' actor linked with helming live action film

Andy Serkis to direct 'Jungle Book' remake?

Andy Serkis could direct the live-action remake of The Jungle Book, according to reports.

The British movie star – who is best known for his portrayal of Gollum in Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit films – is reportedly in talks with Warner Bros to take over the role.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Serkis – who would be making his directorial debut if he were handed control of the project – is the leading candidate for the role after previous director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

It was reported earlier this month (March 7) that The Wire and Luther actor Idris Elba was in talks to voice the dangerous tiger Shere Khan in the film. Over the past several years he has been branching out into Hollywood with roles in films such as Thor: The Dark World and Prometheus, and most recently starred in the Nelson Mandela biopic Long Walk To Freedom.

Disney's first animated Jungle Book film, based on Rudyard Kipling's classic collection of stories, was released in 1967.
