Ben Stiller in talks to direct new 'Pinocchio' movie starring Robert Downey Jr
Downey Jr would play woodcarver Mister Geppetto in the live-action remake
Ben Stiller is reportedly in talks to direct a new live-action Pinocchio film starring Robert Downey Jr.
Downer Jr would play woodcarver Mister Geppetto as well as producing the movie with his wife Susan Downey. The project has been in the works at Warner Bros since 2010 and at one point Tim Burton was attached to direct.
During a recent interview to promote Iron Man 3, Downey Jr was asked to choose his ideal director for the project and selected Stiller - who previously directed him in Tropic Thunder, a hit action comedy released in 2008.
According to Deadline, this endorsement led to Stiller and Downey Jr having a brief discussion about Pinocchio and has now sparked "talks" between Stiller and Warner Bros. However, these haven't progressed to the "negotiations" stage yet.
As well as helming Tropic Thunder, Stiller also directed The Cable Guy, a 1996 comedy flick starring Jim Carrey, and his own 2001 vehicle Zoolander. His latest project as director is a new big screen adaptation of The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, the classic 1939 short story by James Thurber. Stiller also stars in the movie, which is due for release this Christmas (2013).
