Ben Stiller will play a Chippendale in a new film about the male stripper troupe, according to reports.
Variety says that Stiller is set to play choreographer Nick DeNoia in I Am Chippendales, which will focus on the dance group's early years and how it became one of the most well-known adult entertainment shows in the world.
As the Guardian reports, Stiller's character DeNoia was allegedly the victim of a contract killing in 1987. His Chippendales partner Somen Banerjee was subsequently convicted for ordering the murder in 1994, but he hung himself before his trial could be completed.
The group's tumultuous backstory also includes the suicide of co-creator Paul Snider, who shot both himself and his wife, the Playboy model Dorothy Stratten, after she left him to pursue a career in Hollywood and had an affair with film director Peter Bogdanovich.
American Beauty scriptwriter Alan Ball, who is also the creator of TV shows True Blood and Six Feet Under, is set to direct the film. Stiller recently starred in The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, a remake of the classic 1947 comedy film of the same name based on a popular short story by James Thurbe.
