Benedict Cumberbatch to star with Emma Stone in haunted house movie 'Crimson Peak'

Benedict Cumberbatch is to star in Crimson Peak, a new haunted house movie from Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro.

According to Variety, the Sherlock actor will join a cast that already includes Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Charlie Hunnam (Sons Of Anarchy).

Plot details are being kept under wraps but del Toro plans to start shooting the movie next February (2014). The director is currently working on a new draft of the script with screenwriter Lucinda Coxon, whose previous credits include The Crimson Petal And The White.

Meanwhile, Cumberbatch is now shooting series three of Sherlock, which is due to air later this year (2013). The actor has been massively in demand since the hit BBC detective show began in 2010.

As well as appearing in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy and new Meryl Streep movie August: Osage Country, Cumberbatch will star as Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate, an upcoming film about the story of WikiLeaks. He's also playing an enigmatic villain called John Harrison in Star Trek Into Darkness, which arrives in cinemas on May 9.
