Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul will have a "flexible timeline" meaning that parts of the show will be set before, during and after its parent title.
As confirmed, the spin-off show will focus on Bob Odenkirk's lawyer character Saul Goodman and is set to begin in 2015. A second season of the show has already been commissioned before the first even begins.
Speaking to the New York Daily News, executive producer Peter Gould said that he wants the show to stand alone, away from Breaking Bad, but that he is excited about having the ability to jump between decades as they tell their story.
"One of the great things about having a timeline which is flexible is that perhaps some of it takes place before Breaking Bad, during Breaking Bad, and after Breaking Bad," Gould said. That gives us the ability to bring back characters that were killed on Breaking Bad."
Both Aaron Paul and his Breaking Bad co-star Bryan Cranston had shown an interest in appearing in Better Call Saul. Speaking of his plans and casting options for the show, creator Vince Gilligan said: "The sky's the limit with a prequel. Everybody who's now deceased in the Breaking Bad world is obviously still alive. You never know who might turn up and when and where."
Jonathan Banks, who played private investigator Mike in Breaking Bad, will also serve as a regular cast member on Better Call Saul.
