True-life tale of Iraq war marksman Chris Kyle is in cinemas January 16, 2015

Bradley Cooper plays an Iraq war marksman in the first trailer for director Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper.

The real-life story of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle will be released in cinemas January 16, 2015. The film is based on Kyle’s book American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military.

In the trailer, Hangover star Cooper is fixing the crosshairs of Kyle’s gun on potential insurgent targets while protecting his unit. But when he spots a child holding a grenade the sharpshooter is left with the impossibly tough decision of whether or not to take the shot.

The film’s synopsis has revealed: “Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and, as stories of his courageous exploits spread he earns the nickname ‘Legend’. However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents.”

Meanwhile, Kyle faces another battle at home as he struggles to come to terms with life as an absentee husband and father. American Sniper follows his journey through four harrowing tours of duty and his difficulties adjusting to life back home with his wife Taya (played by Sienna Miller). Watch the trailer below.
