'Captain America' co-directors to return for third film in series
Russo brothers confirm they will continue to helm Marvel franchise
The co-directors of the forthcoming Captain America - The Winter Soldier have confirmed that they will return to oversee a third film in the franchise.
As Total Film reports, Joe and Anthony Russo have agreed a deal with Marvel to sit behind the camera for another film in the series. "Well now that Kevin [Feige, Marvel's President Of Production] said it, that means we can talk about it, I guess," said Joe Russo. "We're just in the formative stages of it right now. We just started breaking the story and we’re just getting an idea of what we wanna do with it."
He added: "It’s crazy working on it before the movie even comes out, because you want to see what people respond to in the movie. You want to get some inspiration from what people like about the film so you go, 'Okay, this is what we gotta lean into in the next movie' or 'this is what we should move away from, this didn’t work so well.'"
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is is set for release on April 4, 2014. The film will see Chis Evans reprise his role as the titular hero. He will be joined by Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury for the sequel, while Anthony Mackie plays a superhero called the Falcon who has the ability to fly and Robert Redford appears as a a senior official within government agency SHIELD.
