Chris Hemsworth: 'I can't play He-Man'
He says the character is just too similar to his existing role as Thor
Chris Hemsworth has ruled himself out of playing He-Man - because the character is too similar to his existing role as Thor.
A new He-Man movie called Masters Of The Universe is currently in the works at Sony Pictures. Jon M Chu, who previously called the shots on Step Up 3D and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, is on board as director.
He-Man was previously played on the big screen by Dolph Lundgren, who fronted a 1987 movie also called Masters Of The Universe. Back in August (2012), Lundgren revealed that either Hemsworth or Channing Tatum would be his top choice to take on the role.
When asked to respond by Empire, Hemsworth said: "I can't play He-Man, it's pretty much Thor, isn't it?" Hemsworth also admitted that his role as a hero in The Avengers series could prevent him from being offered villainous parts in future films, saying: "Yeah, I'd probably have to make more of an effort to get that kind of role."
Hemsworth began shooting Thor 2 back in September. The sequel will see his hammer-wielding hero do battle with a villain called Malekith The Accursed, played by former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston. Subtitled Thor: The Dark World, the film is scheduled for release on November 8, 2013.
