'Control' star Sam Riley and Helen Mirren star in 'Brighton Rock'

Rowan Joffe turning Graham Greene novel into a film

Control star Sam Riley is set to return to cinema screens in February 2011 in Brighton Rock - an adaptation of Graham Greene’s 1939 novel of the same name. Written and directed by Rowan Joffe, who wrote screenplays for The American and 28 Weeks Later, and produced by award-winning producer Paul Webster, Brighton Rock will also star Andrea Riseborough, Helen Mirren and John Hurt.

The story follows the fall of Riley's character Pinkie, a razor-wielding disadvantaged teenager doing everything he can to climb through the ranks of organised crime. Pinkie finds romance with Rose, a young waitress who accidentally comes across evidence that links Pinkie and his gang to a revenge killing.

With the death penalty being actively carried out, Pinkie must do everything he can to get rid of witnesses to his killing.

Brighton Rock has been made in association with BBC Films and the UK Film Council's Premiere Fund and will premiere at September’s Toronto Film Festival. It will be out on February 4.
