Crewmember killed on set of 'GI Joe'

A crew member on the new GI Joe film has been killed, it has emerged.

Mike Huber was working on a high-powered scissor lift to tear down one of the film’s sets when the machine tipped over and he sustained fatal injuries, according to TMZ.

New Orleans-based Huber was a hired local from New Orleans who had been contracted to work on the sequel.

A spokesperson from Paramount said in a statement: "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with [Huber’s] family at this time. The safety of our cast and crew is our top priority and the studio is fully co-operating with all investigating agencies as they examine the circumstances surrounding this unusual accident."

It is not yet known how the tragedy will impact on the production or release of the film.

Directed by Jon Chu, GI Joe 2: Retaliation is due for release next year. It sees Channing Tatum return to the lead role and features Dwayne Johnson and Ray Park.
