'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' sequel at 'early stages', says Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh has given an update on the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Word of a sequel first emerged last month (January). The project is being steered by Oscar-winning producer Harvey Weinstein, but original director Ang Lee will not be returning.

Last month, Weinstein was said to be in talks with experienced Chinese director Ronnie Wu, whose English-language movies include Freddy Vs Jason and The 51st State.

The sequel is set to focus on Yu Shu Lien, the character played by Yeoh in the first film. Discussing the project with Metro, Yeoh said: "It's early stages. It still depends on the script and who the director is, and it's never easy to make another movie after such an incredible classic but Crouching Tiger is a gem in my heart and always will be. So we will see."

Released in 2000, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon became the highest-grossing foreign language film in US box office history and raked in over $213m (£135m) worldwide. It later won four Oscars including the award for best foreign language film.
