Fans are given their first glimpse of Craig's third outing as 007

Daniel Craig as James Bond in 'Skyfall': First picture release

The first picture has been released of Daniel Craig in Skyfall.

Craig is seen in his third outing as James Bond in the new image, revealed by producers today via 007.com. The super-spy is seen covered in stubble and brandishing a gun, ready for action.

But there is little else in the way of clues to point to what will happen in the 23rd Bond movie. The film's synopsis simply reads: "Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."

There has been speculation that the story will see the deaths of several MI6 agents after funeral scenes were shot at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich Park in recent weeks.

Skyfall is directed by Sam Mendes in his 007 debut, and the script has been written by John Logan. As well as Judi Dench returning as M, Ben Whishaw has been cast as gadget master Q, and the supporting cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Berenice Marlohe, Naomie Harris, Helen McRory and Javier Bardem.

The film is due for release on October 26. You can watch footage from the film's press conference by clicking below.
