'Dark Knight Rises' is UK's fastest-grossing movie of 2012

The Dark Knight Rises has become the fastest-grossing film of the year in the UK.

The final instalment in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy has taken over £30 million at the UK box office in just 10 days. Avengers Assemble, released in May, took two days longer to cross the £30 million mark – its UK box office total now stands at £51.8 million.

Four years ago, previous Batman film The Dark Knight took 15 days to earn £30 million at the UK box office. It went on to gross a shade over $1 billion (£640 million) worldwide, making it the 12th highest-grossing film of all-time.

On Sunday (July 29), Deadline reported that The Dark Knight Rises has already grossed over $537 million (£343 million) worldwide. However, the film's box office performance in the US has been slightly slower than that of Avengers Assemble and 2008's The Dark Knight. Many commentators are attributing this to the aftermath of the Colorado shootings.

The Dark Knight Rises is also proving especially popular amongst film buffs. Earlier this week (July 30), it was reported that regular users of the Internet Movie Database have already voted it the tenth greatest movie of all-time.
