David Strathairn in talks to join new 'Godzilla' movie
'Kick-Ass' star Aaron Johnson and 'Breaking Bad''s Bryan Cranston are also negotiating roles
Strathairn, best known role his roles in Good Night And Good Luck, The Bourne Ultimatum and most recently Lincoln, would play a "military figure" in the reboot, Variety reports. At present, exact character descriptions and plot details for the film are being kept firmly under wraps.
Last month (February), actress Elizabeth Olsen confirmed she is on board and said of the reboot: "It's definitely not lighthearted. It's kind of going back to its roots of the original Japanese film."
Meanwhile, Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson and Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston and also said to be negotiating roles. Juliette Binoche has been linked to the film too.
The new Godzilla movie is being helmed by British director Gareth Edwards, who made his name with 2010's Monsters, an acclaimed sci-fi flick shot for just $500,000 (£308,000). Shooting is due to begin later this month and Warner Bros has set a May 2014 release date.
Godzilla began as an Japanese film franchise that ran for 28 pictures between 1954 and 2004. The giant monster has also starred in comic books, novels, TV series and video games. Independence Day director Roland Emmerich helmed a previous Hollywood remake in 1998, but it was poorly received.
