'Doctor Who' Christmas broadcast details confirmed

Doctor Who will return on Christmas Day this year, it has been confirmed.

Although the sci-fi show was known to be returning for another festive special, named The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe, it had not been revealed when the special would be airing. Now the BBC has announced that it will retain its traditional place at 7pm on December 25 on BBC One for a seventh successive year.

Showrunner Steven Moffat said in a statement:

The Doctor at Christmas - nothing is more fun to write. Maybe because it's his kind of day - everything's bright and shiny, everybody's having a laugh, and nobody minds if you wear a really stupid hat.

"Of all the Doctors, Matt Smith's is the one that was born for this time of year - so it’s the best news possible that he's heading back down the chimney."

The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe takes place in World War II England, and stars a guest cast of Claire Skinner, Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir and Alexander Armstrong. You can watch the trailer by clicking below.
