'Doctor Who' star Matt Smith replaces Captain Birdseye on special fish fingers box
Only one edition has been produced and it's been sent to Smith himself
Birds Eye has designed a special Doctor Who-themed pack of fish fingers.
The special packaging, which hasn't been officially sanctioned by the BBC, replaces beardy Captain Birdseye with Matt Smith's clean-shaven Timelord. Only one edition has been produced and Birds Eye has sent it to Smith himself – together with the generous gift of a year's supply of fish fingers.
Birds Eye commissioned the one-off box to mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who this November and today's launch of something called "Fish Fingers and Custard Day". Smith famously dined on the unusual combination of fish fingers and custard in his very first episode as the Timelord, which was shown in April 2010.
Smith and new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman will star in the eagerly-anticipated 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who airing on November 23. The episode, which is rumoured to be 90 minutes long, will also feature old favourites David Tennant and Billie Piper, whose roles were confirmed over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Doctor Who's seventh series resumed this Saturday (March 30) on BBC One. Seven episodes remain before the 50th anniversary special and upcoming guest stars include Diana Rigg, Warwick Davis and Alex Kingston.
