'Doctor Who' stars know nothing about big screen version

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan say they are in the dark about movie adaptation

'Doctor Who' stars know nothing about big screen version

Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have revealed that they know nothing about the film currently in development.

Last week, Harry Potter director David Yates revealed that he is working on a movie adaptation for BBC Worldwide. He provoked controversy among fans by saying that the format would need a "radical transformation to take it to a bigger arena".

Now, the current stars of the show confirmed that they have not been involved in discussions. Smith told Fearne Cotton’s Radio 1 show: "I have absolutely no idea what it will be about. We’re not really anything to do with it."

He added that he and Gillan had "read [the news] in the paper".

Gillan added: "There's always rumours about a Doctor Who film. I remember them saying that Johnny Depp was going to be the Doctor". Both stars said that they doubt they would appear in any potential movie. Yates himself said that that the production team are going to take "two or three years to get it right".

Doctor Who returns next month for a Christmas special titled The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe. You can watch the trailer below.
