Don Cheadle on 'Iron Man 3': 'There's more of an existential journey'

Iron Man 3 sees Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark embark on an "existential journey", says co-star Don Cheadle.

Back in October (2012), Disney released an official plot synopsis for the sequel, teasing: "Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?"

Now Cheadle, who plays Stark's close friend Rhodey, has spoken out about the character's dilemma. He told E!: "The tone is there's more of an existential journey that Tony's on trying to come to grips with this thing that he created that is creating him, too. Who's really in control? And the toll that it takes on his relationships."

However, producer Kevin Feige recently explained that, in spite of the psychological themes, Iron Man 3 is "not a serious movie". Cheadle echoed these comments, adding: "And then lot of shit blows up."

The first trailer for the movie was released back in October (2012) - scroll down and click 'play' to watch it. Iron Man 3 is scheduled to open in UK cinemas later this year, on May 1.
