Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino to write and star in music-themed sitcom

Rapper/actor recently cut down his long-running role on 'Community'

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino to write and star in music-themed sitcom

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino is developing his own music-themed sitcom.

According to Deadline, the rapper/actor will write, executive produce and star in a 30-minute comedy set on the Atlanta scene where he grew up.

The series, provisionally titled Atlanta, is currently in development at US network FX, home to shows including Louie, American Horror Story and Sons Of Anarchy.

Other networks were apparently interested in the series, but Glover plumped for FX because they were happy to accommodate his touring schedule. The most recent Childish Gambino album, 'Camp', came out in 2011 and peaked at Number 11 on the US charts. Last year, Gambino guested on 'Trouble', a UK Top Ten hit by former X Factor champion Leona Lewis.

Glover has played Troy Barnes on US sitcom Community since 2009, but recently [url-http://www.nme.com/filmandtv/news/donald-glover-aka-childish-gambino-cuts-back-commitment/312403]cut down his role[/url] and will appear in just five of the 13 episodes planned for season five, which will allow him to concentrate on his own series Atlanta.
