Ed Sheeran has landed a role in the forthcoming third Bridget Jones movie.

The singer-songwriter shared a selfie from the film's set yesterday, showing Renee Zellweger's title character in the background. "Spent the day being an actor in the new Bridget Jones movie. Loved it, you're gonna love it too," he wrote.

The new Bridget Jones movie isn't Sheeran's first foray into acting. He had a recurring role in The Bastard Executioner, a US historical drama series from the creator of Sons Of Anarchy that debuted on FX this September, but has since been cancelled.

The new Bridget Jones movie, which is titled Bridget Jones's Baby, started shooting in London last month. Alongside Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth is reprising his role as Mark Darcy, but Hugh Grant will not be back as Daniel Cleaver.

Meanwhile, Grey's Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey has joined the cast in an unknown role. Bridget Jones's Baby is not an adaptation of Helen Fielding's third novel in the series, in which Firth's character was killed off, but is instead based on various newspaper columns she wrote for The Independent in 2005. The film is scheduled for release on September 16, 2016.
